An Introduction to MicroTCA

MicroTCA is one of the latest significant architecture efforts from the standards-based community for embedded computing systems. The MicroTCA architecture allows large arrays of AdvancedMC modules to be used in a wide range of applications where a lower cost solution is required than could be achieved by the standard AdvancedTCA architecture.

The MicroTCA backplane allows single or redundant virtual carriers to provide power management, platform management and fabric connections to greater numbers of modules than a single physical carrier card could support in a classic ATCA application.(-More-)

VITA News

Both VITA 46 (VPX) and VITA 41.7 (VXS Processor Mesh) are still working through implementation. They are expected to go to ballot in the next couple of months.

PICMG News

The MicroTCA.0 Rev 1.0 specification was ratified this month. A MicroTCA Interoperability Workshop (MIW) is scheduled for Sept 20-22 in Boston.

New Products

VXS Processor Mesh

The VXS Processor Mesh is a powerful architecture with bandwidth that can deliver 112 Gbps of aggregate throughput within the processing mesh in a single chassis. The 12-slot backplane has 6 VXS mesh, 1 VXS hub, 1 central I/O, 3 VXS payload, and 2 legacy VME64x slots.

MicroTCA Backplane

The Elma Bustronic MicroTCA backplane is a
14-slot single star design. It contains 12 AMC, 1 power, and 1 MCH slots, all in the single width/full size configuration.
