An
Intro to the GigaBridge High Availability Backplane
Bustronic
has been developing the GigaBridge High Availability backplane
along with PLX Technology Inc. utilizing their switched-PCI
technology. The backplane will operate at much higher data
rates than standard PCI technology. In addition to operating
at increased speed over a standard PCI bus, a switched-PCI
network is able to support multiple concurrent transactions,
increasing the performance versus a shared-bus. (-more-)

VITA
41 (VXS backplane)
The
development of the base specification, VITA 41, has been progressing
rapidly. The task group is wrapping up the live insertion section
draft. Tyco is has presented positive results of the Tier 3
connector testing. Military testing requirements were drawn
up earlier and Tyco and CRANE have begun testing. Preliminary
results are encouraging.

power sub-task group, thermal sub-task group and software
sub-task groups are reforming now that the signal and power
connectors have been chosen.

PICMG
3.x (AdvancedTCA)
The
PICMG 3.x specifications are progressing, but a little slower than
expected. There are so many things to be worked out, that the timeframe
for the specification may slip a little bit. However, with the PICMG
2.17 specification ratified, the StarFabric implementation of Advanced
TCA (PICMG 3.3) should move forward more quickly. Of course, a lot
depends on the progress of the core spec 3.0. |
